Van Lanier has been a business turnaround consultant for 30 years. He helps struggling companies avoid bankruptcy and return to profitability. Van represents privately owned companies in the Eastern U.S.
Van's typical client is a small to mid-size company in the middle stage of decline -- falling revenue, shrinking gross profit, persistent cash flow problems, and a very nervous banker. Van works directly with the CEO to reduce the stress, stabilize the company, and guide it through the turnaround process to a succesful recovery.
Van is a Certified Management Consultant and a life-long practitioner of turning things around. He earned his M.B.A. with highest honors before personal computers made the math easy.
Van has practiced independently most of his career. In the 1990s, he was National Director of Turnaround Consulting for a major firm, but returned to private practice after several years.
In addition to his consulting practice, Van has earned his stripes as an entrepreneur. In 1974, he obtained the cable television franchise for Fernandina Beach, Florida. Three decades later, a technology company he founded was named Innovation of the Year by Frost & Sullivan. Van has owned seven other small companies. Most were successful, but he took it in the gut from one.
Van knows what works, and what doesn't, in small and mid-size businesses. He has sweated payroll on Friday's and mortgaged his home to buy inventory. Van has been where you are and survived to tell about it.
Van is a member of the Turnaround Management Association, the Institute of Management Consultants, and the Superior Business Firm Roundtable. He writes and speaks on business turnaround issues for the World Bank, Small Business Development Centers, and other organizations.
Van works from Herndon, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC.
